The Eddie Takes a Breather: Surf Museum Relocates

Hey surf fam, let's catch up on two big moves happening stateside. First up: Hawaii's legendary Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational isn't making a splash this season. As Spectrum News reported, the 90-day waiting period just wrapped without those mythical Waimea Bay monsters showing their face. It's only the 11th time in 41 years the contest hasn't happened, and it's never gone three years in a row. Contest director Liam McNamara put it bluntly: 'The qualifying swell conditions simply weren't there this year.' Even with over 100 volunteers on standby since December, the ocean didn't cooperate. They're banking on El NiƱo to bring the thunder in 2026.

Meanwhile down in Southern California, the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum is packing up its 35-year-old digs. The city council just greenlit a move to the Main Street Branch Library, snagging a cozy 1,200-square-foot space for just $500 a month. As The Inertia noted, this 'sweetheart deal' comes with controversy—some locals worry it'll cramp the library's style. But Visit Huntington Beach prez John Urdi sees it differently: 'This gives the museum a fresh perspective to showcase surfing's history from Duke Kahanamoku to today's heroes.' Whether you're chasing big waves or surfing through history, these stories remind us how the sport constantly evolves.
