New Wave Pool Hits California, While Lifeguards Issue Hazard Alerts

Wavegarden just opened its second U.S. wave pool in the Coachella Valley, turning a desert stretch into a surf playground. The facility can produce 1,000 waves per hour and offers more than 60 wave variations, from a barreling Twister to ramp sections designed for aerial tricks. Jacob 'Zeke' Szekely called it the best wave pool in the world and John Luff said the barrels gave him time to take a conscious breath. Meanwhile California lifeguards are sounding the alarm on dangerous surf conditions. Sneaker waves and strong rip currents are expected along the coast, and officials are urging beachgoers to stay near lifeguard stations where free life jacket stations have been installed.
