What's Hot in the Surf World This Week

From the reef breaks of Fiji to the desert wave pool in California and a secret spot in Durban, the surf scene has been anything but boring. Here's a quick rundown of the stories that caught our eye.

Maui Windsurfers Shine at Fiji Surf Pro

The World Windsurfing Tour stopped at Cloudbreak reef and the Maui crew came out on top. Bernd Roediger claimed first place despite nursing a strained ACL, while Morgan Noireaux landed the highest single‑wave score of the event. The competition saw some of the biggest conditions of the season, with four rigs destroyed and one competitor breaking a foot. You can read the full recap over at Maui News.

Wavegarden Unveils Second U.S. Wave Pool in Coachella

Wavegarden just opened its second American facility, DSRT Surf, in the Coachella Valley. The pool can generate a thousand waves per hour and offers more than sixty different wave shapes, including a dedicated aerial ramp and a barreling option they call the Twister. Sessions are expected to start around $60 per hour, making it a more affordable alternative to Palm Springs Surf Club. Find more details on The Inertia.

Jordy Smith Finds a 'Day of Days' at a Durban Secret Spot

Jordy Smith, along with Chad Du Toit, James Ribbink, Josh Redman and Brandon Jackson, scored a supremely hollow session at a little‑known wave in Durban. Smith described it as the 'day of days', a rare combo of perfect shape and powerful spit. The wave demands a late drop and a set line, but for this crew it was worth the challenge.
