Maui Surfers Shine at Fiji, New CA Wave Pool, and Free Life Jackets

The Hawaiian surfing scene is buzzing after local windsurfers Bernd Roediger and Morgan Noireaux stormed the Fiji Surf Pro, taking first and third places respectively. Roediger's victory was especially sweet, coming on a strained ACL and after a month off the water, while Noireaux nailed the highest single-wave score of the event. The win marks a huge boost for the Maui windsurfing community and shows that even a short break can fuel a fire for competition.

Meanwhile, on the West Coast, the desert town of Coachella Valley just got its second U.S. Wavegarden wave pool. The DSRT Surf facility promises over 60 wave types, including dedicated aerial training sections and a powerful "Twister" barrel that can keep surfers busy for minutes. Jacob "Zeke" Szekely called it the best wave pool he's ever tested, and the low hourly rates could make it a regular spot for both locals and visiting photographers looking for epic water action in unexpected terrain. Check out the full scoop here.

Safety took a front seat as well, with California lifeguards rolling out free life jacket stations at several popular beaches. The push comes after a spate of sneaker‑wave incidents and strong rip currents have left visitors wary. Joe Stoffers, a state lifeguard, urges beachgoers to "go talk to our lifeguards, and they will help you stay safe." The new stations are a handy resource for anyone who wants to dip their board into the surf without worrying about unexpected conditions. Read the full story here.
