CA Wave Pool Opens, Maui Wins Big, Surf Safety Alert
Grab your coffee and let's dive into this week's wave report. Whether you are chasing the perfect barrel or looking for a safe spot to launch your camera, there is plenty to cover.
Waves in the Desert
Wavegarden has opened its second U.S. wave pool, DSRT Surf, in the Coachella Valley. It sits about 100 miles from the actual ocean, offering a steady supply of rides without the long commute. As reported by The Inertia, the facility can generate 1,000 waves per hour with over 60 wave types on tap. Sessions start at $60 per hour, a nice step down from other pools in the state. Jacob Zeke Szekely called it the best wave pool in the world after testing the aerial settings.
Maui Windsurfers Take Top Honors
Maui's own Bernd Roediger grabbed first place at the Fiji Surf Pro at Cloudbreak reef. He did it with a strained ACL and after not windsurfing for over a month. His teammate Morgan Noireaux finished third after posting the highest-scoring single wave of the event. As Maui News reported, the conditions were some of the most demanding ever ridden on the tour, with several rigs destroyed along the way.
California Surf Safety Warning
While the competition heats up elsewhere, lifeguards in California are urging caution. Hazardous surf conditions, including sneaker waves and strong rip currents, are expected. State lifeguard Joe Stoffers said, 'People not understanding the conditions... you have to know what's going on and just be aware of your surroundings.' Free life jacket stations have also been announced. You can get the full safety details right here.
