Local Grom Becomes Four-Time Fund-Raising Machine

Some kids spend their pocket money on candy. Eleven-year-old Luna Thomas from Margaret River spends hers printing donation tins. For the fourth year running, the pint-sized charger is orchestrating her own SurfAid fund-raiser throughout September, turning every wave she catches into coins for the charity that supports surf communities across the Pacific.

If you’ve seen Luna in the water, you’ll know she’s not messing around. Her cutbacks are tighter than most adults’ and her attitude is all heart. Last year she lugged a donation bucket from car park to shoreline, politely explaining to bemused tourists why the ocean treats her better when kids in remote villages have clean water. The result? Enough cash to make seasoned fund-raisers blush. Grab the full low-down on her September mission right here.

This year Luna’s goal is bigger, the stickers are shinier, and the raffle prize list now includes a brand-new softboard aimed squarely at any grom who donates. If you’re in the Southwest, look for the chalk-drawn arrow pointing to her booth near Main Break; if you’re watching from afar, you can toss a few dollars into her online portal and watch the tally tick upward like a swell graph on steroids.

Surf photographers, take note: Luna’s morning sessions are pure gold—back-lit spray, sun-kissed freckles, and that unstoppable grin. Post your shots under #SurfSnapsLuna and we’ll feature the best frames on our feed. Let’s help the grom keep the momentum—and the donations—rolling in.
