California just got a new surf spot, and the ocean's excitement reached far beyond the desert
Wavegarden is celebrating the opening of DSRT Surf in Coachella Valley, the second U.S. wave pool run by the Spanish tech company. The pool can produce 1,000 waves an hour and lists more than 60 world-class waves, including a barrel the company calls powerful, wide, and technical. Sessions were expected to start at $60 per hour, a far cry from the roughly $100 sessions at Palm Springs Surf Club. Jacob Szekely said, 'I never imagined I would be testing aerial waves in the middle of the desert.' As The Inertia reported, the pool is a sign that surf tech keeps charging forward.
From Cox's Bazar to the Asian Games
Across the world, Bangladesh surfers are chasing the same dream on a very different lineup. Mohammad Mannan and Fatima Akhter from Cox's Bazar spoke about their path to the Asian Games in Japan. Mannan began on the same shores, selling seashell jewellery, then turned to surfing. His parents wanted him to focus on studies, but he refused. He said, 'I believed surfing would eventually grow.' As The Daily Star reported, the pair hope surfing can find a place in a cricket and football obsessed country.
Respect the Ocean, Even When It Looks Fun
California lifeguards are urging beachgoers to use caution as hazardous surf, including sneaker waves and strong rip currents, rolls along the coast. They announced free life jacket stations and said people should stay off rocks, keep an eye on kids, and never turn their backs on the ocean. As Channel 3000 reported, lifeguards stressed that the ocean plays by its own rules.
