Meet the 10-Year-Old Who Surf-Airs for Good
While most fourth-graders are trading Pokémon, Colton Rocklage is trading barrels for bucks. The San Juan Capistrano grom just wrapped September’s Make-A-Wave challenge, surfing every single day to fund clean-water and health projects for remote communities through SurfAid. His take: “I’ve never raised so much money before—I hope this helps other kids have the same basic needs as me.” That’s big talk from someone who still has to ask Mom to reach the cereal.
When he wasn’t logging daily sessions at Lowers, Lost Winds and Huntington, Colton added a new trick to his bag: front-side airs. “I’m working on being faster to my feet and staying deeper in the pocket,” he told Picket Fence Media. Translation—he’s already spraying grown-ups and handing out Nature Valley bars to hungry line-ups. Next time you see a mini-surfer boosting with a grin, share a wave; he might share a granola bar back.
