Wavegarden's Desert Wave Machine Takes Flight
California’s desert just got a surf makeover. Wavegarden is celebrating the opening of DSRT Surf in Coachella Valley, the second U.S. wave pool the Spanish tech firm has rolled out. The pool can spit out 1,000 waves an hour and serves up a catalogue of more than 60 rides, from barrel‑ready “Twisters” to aerial ramps that let you practice flips in the middle of the sand.

According to the press release, the desert pool’s “Twister” wave is described as powerful, wide, and technical – a barrel that actually lets you breathe mid‑spin. Jacob “Zeke” Szekely, a local surf tester, called it “the best wave pool in the world,” and even praised the long barrels that give you a moment to think about your next move.
Pricing isn’t set yet, but the company hints at rates starting around $60 an hour, undercutting the nearby Palm Springs Surf Club’s $100 beginner sessions. Sessions are expected to open “late summer,” so keep an eye on the website for booking.
Meanwhile, over on the Pacific coast, lifeguards are sounding the alarm about hazardous surf conditions. A recent Channel 3000 report warns of sneaker waves and strong rip currents along California beaches, urging beachgoers to stay near lifeguard stations and consider the new free life‑jacket stations being rolled out.
