Maui Pros Rule the Waves in Fiji
The Maui contingent definitely showed up and showed out at the Fiji Surf Pro. In some of the most intense conditions seen on tour this season, Maui's own Bernd Roediger took home first place at the legendary Cloudbreak reef. What makes this win even more impressive is that Roediger did it while battling a strained ACL and having been out of the water for over a month. 'It's an incredible feeling,' Roediger said regarding the win. 'I've wanted to win here since the last Fiji event in 2023, but to actually win it is totally different.' While Roediger took the gold, Morgan Noireaux also put on a clinic, securing third place and landing the highest-scoring single wave of the event. It was a heavy week for the pros, with several competitors facing everything from broken boards to broken feet as they pushed the limits of what's possible on the reef.
Desert Dreaming: New Wave Pool in Coachella Valley
If you thought you needed a coastline to find a perfect barrel, think again. Wavegarden is bringing the ocean to the desert with the opening of DSRT Surf in California's Coachella Valley. This is just the second Wavegarden pool on U.S. soil, and it is looking to be a massive hit for surfers looking to train. The tech behind this is seriously impressive, capable of producing 1,000 waves per hour with a catalogue of over 60 different wave types. One feature called the 'Twister' is specifically designed to offer powerful, technical barrels. As surfer Jacob 'Zeke' Szekely put it, 'I never imagined I would be testing aerial waves in the middle of the desert.' Whether you are looking to refine your turns or practice your aerial game, this desert oasis might just be your new favorite training ground.
